Productsdescription:NOCHES CUBANAS EN EL CAFE DEL MAR
A romantic song concert with
Luis Frank (Vocals) &
Guillermo Rubalcaba (Piano)
Havana in 1932: the Prado is brightly lit, the cafés on the Malecón, the coast road, glimmering in a romantic sheen. Boleros and danzones give the night a magic touch.
Maestro Rubalcaba comes from this era and from a legendary musical dynasty which for generations produced the best pianists.
Boleros,
danzones and
son were his world, and then the
cha-cha-chá was born; in the late 1940s he travelled all over the world giving concerts with its creator, Enrique Jorrín.
At the end of the 1990s the Buena Vista Social Club came along, founded by Juan de Marcos and others, and Rubalcaba went on a world tour with them. Subsequently, Luis Frank and Rubalcaba founded the group SONEROS DE VERDAD, gathering together the elite of Cuban singers: Pio Leiva, Puntillita and Raul Planas from the Buena Vista Social Club, and the legendary Rudy Calzado, who had sung the first cha-cha-cha hit with Enrique Jorrin fifty years before and had then joined Mario Bauza’s Orchestra in New York and celebrated triumphs with Machito at the Palladium. It was a moving moment when Rubalcaba and Rudy returned to the stage together after more than fifty years. In the last three years, Rubalcaba has been one of the three stars of the musical "The Bar at Buena Vista", a worldwide success, and once again he is touring the world.
Luis Frank Arias is from a younger generation, but traditional Cuban song culture has fascinated him since his childhood. Together with Juan de Marcos he has been largely responsible for rescuing these songs and their poetic lyrics from oblivion. He was the lead singer in Juan de Marcos’ group "Sierra Maestra". De Marcos took him on again for his "Afro Cuban All Stars" production; in the last two years of the Buena Vista Social Club, Luis Frank toured the whole world with it. In the movie "Wim Wenders presents MUSICA CUBANA", which has already been screened in eighteen countries, Luis Frank was portrayed as one of the leading young Cuban vocalists.
The idea of a Cuban song concert was something that the two musicians, despite their numerous commitments, never lost sight of:
only piano and vocals. When they were offered the chance of performing their songs for a week at the Café del Mar, neither of them hesitated. The success was so overwhelming that in the very same week they went to a studio to record their songs.
These two grand gentlemen have touched the right nerve. This music will move people’s hearts in many countries.
